It’s safe to say that most people would be surprised to hear their doctor or nutritionist recommend fast food as a meal option. In fact, the majority of society has been indoctrinated with the idea that fast food is horrible for the body, and many fast food restaurants are poor providers of nutritious food. However, there are some healthy, delicious options at various popular fast food establishments that work in favor of your health.
1.) Chipotle burrito bowl
A burrito bowl from Chipotle is a health-filled meal that fits in the palm of your hand. Whether you’re sitting down to eat or eating on the go, you can’t go wrong with a bowl filled with heart-healthy options, such as rice, beans, lettuce, and tomato.
In fact, beans are one of the most heart-healthy proteins across the board. Beans are an excellent source of fiber and have been linked to a decrease in cholesterol. They are also a great source of antioxidants and can reduce your risk of certain types of cancer.
Tomatoes are also a healthy choice because, like beans, they contain antioxidants and can help reduce inflammation.
2.) Wendy’s Baked potato
A baked potato is one of Wendy’s core menu items. If you haven’t tried one, then you’re missing out. Wendy’s potatoes are loaded with potassium, which plays a key role in regulating blood pressure. Not to mention, they are a delicious, quick, and easy meal.
One thing to keep in mind the next time you pull through the Wendy’s drive-thru is to refrain from packing on the toppings, such as sour cream, cheese, bacon, and butter. Those kinds of condiments are not so great for your health; however, feel free to add on chili.
3.) Taco bell’s bean burrito
Did I happen to mention beans are great for your health? Yes, they produce quite a bit of gas, but beans are outstanding for your heart. One bean burrito from Taco Bell contains 11 grams of fiber, which is half of your recommended daily intake. It also has 20% of your daily dose of iron.
4.) Burger king’s impossible whopper
While most health professionals would never recommend eating a burger every day, they all agree that this sandwich from Burger King is the best option when your stomach is craving a hamburger. This plant-based burger is primarily made with soy, which is healthy, but because it is high in sodium and saturated fat it should be treated like a burger made with red meat. For the best results remove the cheese, mayo, and other various toppings and stick to the lettuce and tomato.
5.) Dunkin Dounut’s Beyond sausage
Sausage is a popular breakfast food option, but not all breakfast sausage is created the same. Having said that, Dunkin’ Dounut’s sausage is far better for you than a bacon and cheese biscuit. The Beyond Sausage is made primarily with pea protein, which is high in lysine (an animo acid that helps turn fatty acids into energy) and arginine (which can decrease blood pressure).
Due to their convenience and price point, fast food is not going anywhere anytime soon. However, lists such as this help you eat better and maintain a life of happiness, health, and well-being.
