10 Coffee Hacks That Will Make Your Morning Joe Super Healthy

Is coffee on your mind first thing in the morning? Mine too. In fact, after I roll out of bed I cannot get to the coffee maker fast enough. But with all the cream and added sugar, your coffee is most likely not the healthiest part of your day. Thankfully, there are several ways to spruce up your morning java.

Switching the milk product you pour into your coffee is the easiest way to reduce the added sugar, fat, and calories in your coffee. However, it is not the most appealing method. Many people cannot consume the hot beverage without a dash of sweetness and extra flavor. But you don’t have to give up your milk or creamer altogether. All that is required is a simple alteration. For example, instead of pouring whole milk into your coffee, try a nut milk such as almond or coconut milk.

Almond milk is one of the best replacements as it actually has more calcium, vitamin A and vitamin D than regular whole milk. Furthermore, it is lower in calories, fats, and added sugars.

Add a dash of cinnamon

Most of us like to drink our coffee with an added touch of sweetness. However, most creamers and artificial sweeteners contain lots of added sugar. A simple way to enjoy a cup of coffee with a hint of flavor is to add a teaspoon of cinnamon. Besides adding the splash of flavor you are looking for, cinnamon is known to be an appetite-suppressant so it can actually help you lose weight.

Add Tumeric

Tumeric is a powerful antioxidant that helps reduce inflammation. It also aids in digestion. Needless to say, a pinch of tumeric makes your cup of coffee a health-infused beverage.

Brew Your coffee with paper filters

Drinking coffee brewed with a paper filter has been directly linked to positive health benefits. For one, unfiltered coffee contains elements that can increase your cholesterol. Paper filters also help eliminate oily substances from you coffee. The downside to paper filters is they are not environmentally friendly. One way to get around this hurdle is to throw your paper filters away in the compost.

Drink water prior to coffee

If you’re like most people, the first thing you crave after you wake up is a hot cup of coffee. The issue is your body is severely dehydrated after going without water for 7-8 hours. What’s more, coffee is a natural diuretic, which means that the caffeine dehydrates your body even more. So, tomorrow morning drink at least one glass of water before you sip on your coffee.

Add Collagen

If you’re not sure what collagen is allow me to share. Collagen is a fibrous protein found in your bones, muscles, and skin. As you age, your body tends to produce less collagen, which leads to weak muscles, brittle bones, and wrinkles. Having said that, adding collagen to your coffee is an excellent way to age gracefully.

Eat before your Coffee

Yes, coffee is important in the morning, but what’s even more essential is food. Coffee has been shown to promote the production of acid, which in the absence of food, can be harmful to your stomach. So, before you chug a cup of coffee be sure you have some food in your gut.

Mix in Coconut oil

Once again, the majority of people prefer their coffee on the sweet side. Yet many creamers are not good for your health. Coconut oil provides a sweet taste, while simultaneously adding health benefits, such as weight loss and energy stimulation.

Experiment with mushroom coffee

This might seem unappetizing at first, but adding mushrooms to your coffee is very healthy for your body. For example, mushrooms contain prebiotics that aid in producing healthy bacteria in your gut, which is beneficial for digestion. 

Stir in a little chocolate

You don’t have to go to Starbucks to enjoy a mocha cappuccino. In fact, you can stay home and make one yourself.  Cocoa is rich in polyphenols, which help reduce inflammation and aid in balancing cholesterol levels.
